At the 2007 USJI Senior Nationals in Miami, sensei Dan Smith was honored with Judo's highest award.

I am honored to say that Dan is my sensei; I am even more honored to say that he is my friend. He is truly an American hero. We own him our gratitude for the judo taught here and for his sacrifice in protecting this country. Dan teaches at his gym, Dickson Athletic Center in Dickson, TN.
